A Minimal Starter Skincare Routine for Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin reacts poorly to too many products introduced at once, which makes a tiered approach, starting minimal and expanding slowly, more reliable than jumping straight into an elaborate routine.
The minimal starter routine
A gentle cleanser, a simple moisturizer, and daily sunscreen cover the essentials without introducing active ingredients that are more likely to cause irritation on sensitive skin. This minimal version should be used consistently for a few weeks before adding anything else, establishing a baseline for how skin behaves without extra variables in the mix.
A fuller routine, introduced gradually later
Once the basics are tolerated well, additional products, such as a targeted serum, can be introduced one at a time, with a reasonable gap between each new addition. Introducing several new products simultaneously makes it nearly impossible to identify which one is responsible if irritation does occur.
Patch testing any new product on a small area, like the inner forearm, before applying it to the face is a simple habit that catches many reactions before they affect a more visible, sensitive area.
The temptation with sensitive skin is often to try more products in search of a fix; the more reliable path is usually fewer products, introduced slowly, with close attention paid to how skin responds at each step along the way.
